Sixth workshop on hazardous chemicals, sustainable energy UNU & GIST Joint Programme on Science and Technology for Sustainability is calling for papers for its sixth workshop on Sound Management of Hazardous Chemicals and Sustainable Energy to be held at Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology (GIST), Gwangju, Korea, October 21-23. This year's workshop will focus on recent developments in research fields which study the environmental impact of hazardous chemicals, including applications using geochemical and biotechnological technologies. The workshop will also address sustainable energy management and recent developments in sustainable energy technology. International experts will lead discussions on current developments in these research fields and the potential application of such technologies for developing countries. About 20 researchers from developing countries will also present research findings on the management of hazardous chemicals and sustainable energy and the problems their countries face in dealing with these environmental issues. The workshop will of interest to researchers and government officials involved in developing and implementing government regulations regarding the monitoring and risk assessment of various hazardous chemicals and pollutants including heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, endocrine disrupting chemicals, radioactive wastes, air pollutants and acidic deposition. People working in the sustainable energy field will also find many of the workshop topics pertinent, including the emerging role of renewable energy, advanced cleaner fossil fuel technology, carbon capture and storage and clean development initiatives. Deadline for applications is June 30. |
