UNU-IAS has full slate of side events at COP 9 UNU Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) is organizing 16 side events and launching six new publications at this year's fourth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (MOP 4, May 12-16) and the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 9, May 19-30) in Bonn, Germany. Held every two years, the Convention on Biological Diversity meeting attracts more than 4,000 participants from around the world and is the most important international meeting for UNU-IAS, particularly for those involved in its Biodiplomacy Initiative. The UNU-IAS side events at COP9 cover a range of topics, including: Carbon markets for the poor; Impacts of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment and the sub-global assessments; and Tools and resources for managing biological prospecting. The next COP in 2010 is a target year for biodiversity and negotiating the International Regime on Access and Benefit Sharing and will likely take place in Nagoya, Japan. |
